training because it is the training of the spirit. Traditionally, when students
of the art first enter a dojo, they learn equality. All must start at the bottom
and work their way up. Subsequently, regardless of their differences as
individuals and the particular style of karate, they learn the higher virtues,
those of respect, compassion, gratitude and honour. Karate is a path by which
one humbly learns one's weaknesses, and it is by these virtues that weaknesses
are turned into strengths.
